Fighting to the Very End: Mohanad Shaaban Demonstrates Champion Spirit at the 2026 Senior World Championships

Former World Number One and Shaban Team founder Mohanad Shaaban completed an extraordinary campaign at the UIPM 2026 Senior Modern Pentathlon World Championships, held in Guiyang, China from August 24 to 30, 2026. Mohanad secured 7th place overall in the individual event after a fierce competition.

Mohanad delivered remarkable performances across the disciplines, setting a new personal best in Obstacle Course Racing (OCR) with a time of 00:22.84 (377 points) to finish 4th. He maintained his momentum in Fencing, finishing 4th with 236 points. In Swimming, he clocked another personal best of 00:54.12 (330 points), placing 3rd overall in the pool.

These strong results elevated Mohanad to 2nd place overall, trailing the leader by a paper-thin margin heading into the final Laser Run. As the competition began, Shaaban took command, executing a masterclass through the first three shooting series. Unfortunately, a recurrence of a previous external oblique tear caused severe discomfort, forcing him to brave intense pain and finish 7th overall with a Laser Run time of 11:23.

Mohanad did not enter the competition targeting 7th place; he came to win. Yet, despite the pain, his determination to push through enabled the national team to secure the Silver Medal in the Team Event.

The tears following the finish line were not of regret or loss, but of an elite competitor hungry for ultimate success. Throughout the competition, Shaaban demonstrated top-tier composure, proving his status as one of the world's most complete modern pentathletes; showing remarkable adaptation during the transition from Equestrian to OCR and mastering how to excel from Day 1 to the final sequence.
